On this page you will find some practical tips and information to make your trip to South Africa as good and pleasant as possible. Please read this carefully so that you can enjoy your trip and stay with us without worrying.

PROVISIONS CONCERNING YOUR TRIP AND VISA

The excellent infrastructure in South Africa allows you to travel easily and comfortably in this beautiful country. Unless other arrangements are made with you, you must book a flight to and from OR Tambo Airport Johannesburg. Please note that when you book your trip, you will have enough time for this trip. The practical course is 6 full days. Keep in mind that a Sunday in the middle of the course does not count as a course day. You must arrive on the day before the start of your course and leave on the day after the last day of the course. Check carefully whether the planning of your trip is geared to this!

We advise you to plan arrival and departure of Johannesburg during the day so that the drive to and from the airport can also take place during the day and we can show you some beautiful sights on the route.

The owner of Lentegeur Wildlife; Maurits van de Wetering, or a representative on his behalf, awaits you at the arrival gate with a sign with your name on it and is dressed in the uniform of Lentegeur Wildlife. Maurits speaks English, Dutch and Afrikaans.

On the way from the airport to the farm a stopover is made for lunch or dinner, depending on your arrival time (= inclusive).

There are no extra costs for your transport to or from the airport. If you travel together with a group, but arrive at a different time or leave the rest of that group, you will be charged € 100 travel costs.

Vaccinations or injections are not necessary for your destination. Make sure that your tetanus injections are still valid!

The area where you arrive, travels and stays has been malaria free for years. Malaria pills are therefore not necessary. We nevertheless advise you to contact your GP before your stay to discuss the current state of affairs regarding malaria and the prevention of diseases.

A valid passport is required to travel to South Africa. You do not need a visa for your trip, a valid EU passport is sufficient.

TRAVELING WITH YOUR OWN WEAPONS

All weapons needed to be able to follow this practical course are available in various suitable calibers at Lentegeur Wildlife and can be used without additional costs, as well as the ammunition needed. This applies for rifle, handgun and shotguns.

During the trial shooting at the shooting range and during hunting components you will be guided by the owner of Lentegeur Wildlife. He is a Professional Hunter (PH) trained and registered in South Africa, which means that both hunters registered as well as non-hunters can participate in the practical parts of the course under his supervision.

Taking your own weapons with a caliber that is suitable for African game is allowed, but requires a lot of preparation, administration and procedures at the airports. Not all airlines are flying with firearms in their luggage. We advise you to use the weapons that are ready for you at Lentegeur Wildlife.

If you prefer to bring your own weapon, this is of course allowed. In that case we would like to refer you to the following website for the further requirements and regulations regarding flying with firearms in your luggage:

https://www.klm.com/travel/gb_en/prepare_for_travel/baggage/exceptional_baggage/permits_and_licenses.htm

Or ask the airline of your choice about their terms and conditions for traveling with firearms and ammunition!

insurance

For some foreign hunters communities, a special hunting insurance is already one of the requirements. By extending your existing hunting insurance with world coverage, you are covered for unexpected costs that can result from hunting-related accidents or events during the course. For those who have their insurance through the Dutch Hunters Association this can easily be requested through the association office. Arrange this in time! Traveling non-trainees are advised to take out travel insurance whereby the conditions and coverage of the insurance take into account the activities that you will undertake during your stay as part of your practical course.

TRAVELING WITH CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS OLD

Of course, children under the age of 18 are also welcome to follow the partner program at Lentegeur Wildlife. They cannot yet be actively involved in harvest activities and dealing with weapons. Please note that as of 1-6-2015 some new provisions have been introduced by the Ministry of the Interior of South Africa for persons under 18 years old who want to travel in or out of the country.  For example, everyone under the age of 18 must have a birth certificate with the full name of the child as stated on the passport of this child. The details of both parents must also be mentioned on this document, just like the passport details and the details of any necessary visa from both parents.

If one of the parents is traveling with the child, he or she must be able to provide a complete and full certificate and a certified declaration from the other parent mentioned on the birth certificate of the child. In this statement, this parent must give permission to the other parent to travel in and out of South Africa with the child in question.

The traveling parent must also have a court decision in which the full parental control over this child for the duration of the trip has been granted to the traveling parent with certified copies of both parents and a telephone number on which both are available 24 hours a day. .

Please be aware that anyone who wants to travel in or out of South Africa with a child under the age of 18 and cannot provide these documents, the entry to the country or departure from the country is refused!
